Bringing a bit of whimsy to your life...

Whimsy Kisses  ::  Jules  ::  Little Girls' Pearls  ::  Expressions In Wood       April 2007

Well, Hello There!

A quick little side note...I know many of you have already read most of this newsletter.  I brilliantly started creating it in place of my old newsletter!  So the *new* newsletter has been live for awhile now.  I have added a few new tidbits this morning though. :o)

I can't believe it's been so long again!  I don't know why it seems the time just slips away from me.  Well...happy belated New Year and Valentine's Day and Happy Mother's Day!  I do hope you had a lovely first part of the year.

Our sweetie boys are growing like weeds and homeschooling, while always a bit of a challenge, has been fun.  Tying shoes, telling time, counting money, sounding out words...all too much fun!  Swimming lessons are going well...our littlest one still has a bit of trouble staying on the wall while waiting for the teacher.  But other than having to stay on the wall and wait for their turn the boys are just in love with swimming lessons.

We just took a few family trips.  It was far too much fun!  After the last couple of years when cancer has touched our family and my surgery for tumors on my thyroid last January, we decided that life was too short and that we wanted to make memories with our boys NOW.

In March we traveled to a place up by Frazier Park, California in the mountains.  I found an AMAZING vacation rental house up there.  My hubby's parents, my parents, my big sis and we all headed up there for a nice little chunk of time.  We turned it into a "crafter's paradise".  Some of the crafts we are attempted were...

jewelry making (duh), creating organic chocolate truffles (YUMM), silk painting, embossing, card making, rubber stamping...hee hee!  It snowed the most they've seen in four years.  We had rare "thunder snow", my big sister gave me a massage for my belated Christmas present (the BEST I've ever had).  We snuggled, sled, walked and sat by the fire.  What fun we had!

We just returned from a homeschooling conference in Sacramento last weekend.  I had a blast!  My hubby took the boys hiking around the river and over rocks and through the gardens while I was in class.

Then next January/February we will be jetting off to Oahu!!!  I have wanted to do this for YEARS.  I found a beautiful little house on the North Shore...it is literally 20 steps out the back door across the grass to the beach.  We will be spending almost 5 blissful weeks with the boys enjoying the surf and sand.  My dear hubby and I will be taking surfing lessons and the boys are convinced they want to surf as well.  We'll be just a couple of miles from the local farmer's market and Macadamia Nut Farm...fresh, organic, locally grown produce.  Need I say more.  I can't wait!  This is part of my new found exercise obsession...I am determined to be able to wear a swimsuit on the beach without whale warnings being sounded!! ;o)

I turned 34 in January and my hubby turned 38 in February.  We are getting so old.  LOL  Sometimes it seems that we can actually watch the sand speeding through the hourglass.

I do hope you and your family are doing well!  I wish you a wonderfully joyful, healthful, peaceful New Year (well 3/4 of the year anyway).

Blessings from our Family to Yours,

~ Julie Miller

TTFN...Ta Ta For Now...

Far Too Sweet!

Have you been searching for the perfect little purse?  Each of these fabulous hand felted purses is created by artist Sharon Davis.  She hand-felts each purse using 100% wool and hand-sews on the little felted flowers or button accents.  These are the perfect additions to your diaper bag or purse to keep all of that "stuff" in the bottom from rolling around!  Each is artisan crafted, therefore utterly unique... just like you!

Check out her entire collection of gorgeous hand-felted purses HERE.

Have you tried these?

These are a few things I have found online and in "real life" that I have become enamored with.

Gnu Bars ~ Have you tried one of these??  They are amazing!  Each little bar is only 130 calories (2 WW points), is created with ingredients that I can read (no fako stuff here), and each bar has 12 grams of fiber.  WOO HOO!  They taste really good, too.  Guilt-Free Goodness.

Pom Tea Drinks ~ These amazing little tea drinks come in a pretty glass bottle and are a mixture of tea and pomegranate juice.  My favorite is the white tea and peach.  Yum!  Super high in antioxidants, too!

My Current Obsessions

* My weight...yeap, it's that New Year thing.  Since I had my thyroid removed because of all of those nasty tumors last January (I can't believe it's been a year!), my weight has just gone up...up...up.  The doctors swear it's not because of the surgery.  Ha ha!  I have gone back to the gym and am doing 4 days of cardio a week, 1 day of weight training and 1 day of Pilates.  We shall see if this helps.  I've lost about 14 pounds so far...woo hoo!  SLOW, but steady.  I have to say I know I'm making wise choices by eating healthy and exercising.  If my weight doesn't go down to where I want it, I have to just learn to love myself the way I am!  I'm not sure why I find that so difficult sometimes.

* Redecorating - once again we are delving into a new project.  We are going to start the second half of our kitchen remodel, the floor.  We are looking at a beautiful slate tile.  I think it will be a pretty contrast to the maple cabinets.  Eventually we will also be getting new carpet in the living room and repainting (away from institutional white).  We found an amazing deal at a going-out-of-business sale...reclining couch and love-seat for 70% off.  We just had a lovely little furniture store open up in Lompoc on H Street (Coast Furniture).  We found some amazing deals on accent tables.

Art is still what stumps me.  Do any of you know of a fabulous photographer?  We'd love to put up some larger prints of amazing places.

* Gardening ~ The conference I went to was on integrating nature into our school day.  Oh how I was inspired by Betty Peck! She has been a Kindergarten teacher for decades and had such lovely ideas on working in a garden with small children.  We are off to tend our garden.  It is my goal to have the boys help me tend our garden every day (rain or shine).  We are going to be building a large pond (removing our small pond) and adding little benches and other fun surprises around our back yard.  hee hee!  I am so excited.  We are on the lookout for a couple of acres in our hometown of Lompoc.  We've peeked about for years but to no avail.  I do believe we are going to be getting serious about it soon.  So if you know of a few acres off the beaten path in Lompoc...please let me know!!!

* Vintage Marbles ~ I know..."how silly!"  I found some at a garage sale and now I'm hooked.  The boys and I play marbles all the time now.  I'm still searching for someone that can drill a hole in them for me so I can make them into jewelry!  hee hee!  If you'd like a job drilling holes through marbles, Pretty Please drop me a note!

Nifty Craft

We did this craft around Valentine's Day, but it works wonderfully as a spring craft.  I found some little clear vases for $1 at Michaels.  Place fun colored glass stones or beads in the bottom of the vase.  Fill it up with the pretty nifties.  Place the bulb on top of the rocks.  Add water in the vase so that it touches the bottom of the bulb.  Soon it will grown and the roots will intertwine with the colorful rocks in the bottom of the jar, and a pretty flower will blossom!  It's a science lesson in the making.  Can you say, "Gravitropism?"
